About

Xephre Drakis is a Rava Viera and the Warrior of Light. Born in the Golmore Jungle as Sverr Fyth, they exhibited physical traits of both genders. They chose to follow the path of a jack and learn under a wood-warder in their adolescent years, then left as a young adult to explore the world and left behind their forest name. Two years before the Calamity, Xephre witnessed an illusory meteor shower and heard Hydaelyn's voice. Along with the usual powers of the Echo, they were also granted an additional ability: every time they die, they go back in time and reawaken on the day they receive the Echo.Believing they were meant to stop the Calamity, they learned all they could, amassing knowledge and information over the course of a dozen or more iterations. A powerful alchemist taught them to make an ink that would persist across time loops, which they named Althyk's Blood. Xephre uses it for two things: one, to write down everything they know and learn in each iteration, and two, to count their deaths by way of tattoos on their leg.But when they finally succeeded in preventing the Calamity, they began to feel a creeping sense of wrongness. It plagued them until they went mad, died, and reawoke in the past once more. They now know that this feeling, the Dread, is caused by a "broken" timeline in which they have changed or prevented essential events.

Xephre quickly comes to see this ability as a curse, forcing them to repeat the same events over and over. They grow disillusioned, knowing what people will say to them in each conversation, how relationships will develop, who will live and who is destined to die.Sometime a few dozen loops in, Xephre makes a pact with not one, but three voidsents: sisters collectively called the Keres, taking the form of beastly birds with jagged talons, whipped tails, and gaping maws full of teeth. Waning, she of suffering and torment. Demise, she of snipped ends and fleeting moments. Remains, she of all that is left behind.Together they grant Xephre the power to smite their foes, and in exchange Xephre's soul will not return to the aetherial sea when they have completed their task. Xephre may not have mentioned in the contract that they reincarnate endlessly, though. The Keres were none too happy to find that out. Before long, word got out of an adventurer wrangling some unruly voidsents, and the Lemures swept in to find Xephre and train them properly before they caused more harm to themself and their surroundings.

Trivia

  • When asked their age, they always just answer "Older than you think." It's never incorrect.

  • Due to the Echo facilitating communication, Xephre has forgotten how to speak their native Vieran tongue, but they have a tendency to pick up the accent when speaking to other Viera.

  • When first told about the Eorzean gods, Xephre settled under Oschon due to their wanderlust and desire to see more of the star. However, after the Echo, as the loops wore on, they began to suspect Althyk had a stronger grasp on them.

  • They occasionally spend a loop here and there spending their whole life focusing on non-combat skills, at least until they can no longer stand the Dread. Through this they've become proficient in many trades.

  • Growing up as a hunter-gatherer, they were already proficient in archery, hand-to-hand combat, and stealth when they first came to Eorzea.

  • They learned Astrology from an old man in La Noscea who gave them a rusty old astrometer and a deck missing several cards. Leveva was impressed they could even heal like that.

  • Though they can command the Keres with any weapon, the birds resonate best with the scythe, and Xephre finds themself using the bow less over the loops.

  • Though they have trained in most forms of combat - sometimes to see if other strategies are more effective, and sometimes just for a change of pace - they're less adept at fine aether manipulation and thus casting and healing. Once they get accustomed to the scythe, they generally prefer to be within melee range.

  • They are unable to summon a proper Carbuncle.

  • They're terrible with machinery.

  • They are, however, combat proficient with a carpenter saw.

Timeline

A few of the significant loops and milestones in Xephre's existence.Note: these numbers are semi-arbitrary and subject to change.

A visual representation of their timeline can be found on Miro.
(It's a work in progress.)

Year 1546 of the 6th Astral Era: Sverr Fyth is born in the Golmore Jungle.Year 1569: Sverr leaves the jungle, then travels to Eorzea, replacing their forest name with the name Xephre Drakis. Using their archery skills from hunting in the jungle, they join the town guard in a small town in La Noscea and become close with a Roegadyn named Leaping Flame.Year 1570: Xephre receives the Echo. They begin to realize they have a sixth sense for danger, and use it to their advantage in their position in the town guard.Year 1572: The Calamity strikes. Xephre dies and returns to the day they received the Echo.

Loop 2: Xephre realizes they're reliving time. They help their town evacuate before the Calamity and aid in healing and rebuilding, but die to a bandit skirmish before the events of ARR begin.Loop 3: Xephre continues to travel to search for answers about their time loop. They also learn some really shoddy Astrology from an old wizard in a tower. They follow the path of fate, make it to ARR, and fall in with the Scions. They eventually fall to Ifrit.Loop 4: Xephre makes it their mission to learn more about the Calamity both before and after it. They avoid the events of ARR, but begin to feel an ever-present sense of dread and wrongness. It grows and grows each day until they eventually lose their mind.Loop 5: Xephre seeks out the Astrologian and together they create Althyk’s Blood, an ink that will persist across loops, supposedly. There’s only one way to find out. They write themself a note and hide it somewhere, then continue on with their studying, skipping ARR again and succumbing once more to that uneasy feeling. They call it the Dread.Loop 6: Xephre finds the note they hid, then begins to use Althyk's Blood to write down everything they know as well as record their loops as tattoos on their leg. They take their journal with them through their adventures, but swiftly learn that this presents a problem if they die and leave it somewhere they can't access at the start of a loop. Instead they establish a hideaway to keep everything safe, as well as several safe spots such as a disregarded corner in the alleyways of Ul'dah or in the nook of an unassuming tree in the Shroud. They try following the events of ARR again, and the Dread doesn't come back.Loop 7+: Xephre continues to try to learn about the Calamity while also dealing with ARR. Most of their deaths are a result of making the wrong choices and succumbing to the Dread, making it clear to them that some events must be followed. As the plot of the MSQ becomes more important, their research falls to the wayside.

Loop 83: Xephre meets the Keres and makes a pact with them, promising their soul and aether in exchange for power. This is the first time they're able to defeat Gaius van Baelsar and eventually the Ultima Weapon. Before long, word got out of an adventurer wrangling some unruly voidsents, and the Lemures swept in to find Xephre and train them properly before they caused more harm to themself and their surroundings.Loop 138: Xephre meets a hapless Au ra lancer named Khutu and, despite a rocky start, becomes close with him. Following the supposed murder of the Sultana, however, the two are separated. Khutu manages to sneak his way into Ishgard and reunite with Xephre, but is eventually killed in a senseless crime in the Brume. Overcome with grief and rage, Xephre takes on the Soul of the Dark Knight.Loop 149: Xephre confides in Ser Haurchefant about their curse, and he encourages them to keep telling him in each life, helping them sort out the true timeline. They watch him die before them and spend the next dozen or so loops trying to find a way to save him. Even when he knows about it, he continues to cheer them on with his unyielding faith and devotion.Loop 156: Xephre becomes close with Ser Aymeric, whose steadfast sword cuts through the thorns around their heart, his shield becoming the armour that protects it. Through his influence they're able to heal somewhat and eventually take on the Soul of the Paladin.Loop 297: Xephre meets, and is defeated by, Zenos yae Galvus. This is the first time they've been this stuck since Gaius, and it takes them a few loops to survive long enough to recognize that this defeat is an Essential Event.

Loop 383: Xephre runs into Raya, their old childhood friend from the Jungle. Despite the deep nostalgia they experience at this reunion, much of their first life has faded from their memory, and by this point in their loops they're deeply jaded and depressed, barely able to muster any feelings. Raya senses the change in her friend and does her best to help, joining the Scions as a minor member.Loop 437: The timeline goes awry and Zenos kills Ser Aymeric at the Ghimlyt Dark. Xephre essentially goes mad with grief and forces a reset.Loop 446: Xephre is taken to the First. The fae are immediately aware of Xephre's particular connection to time, and can sense when they've met before. The pixies become particularly insufferable, since they find new ways to torture Xephre each time.Loop 684: Xephre defeats Hades and rejoins with Ardbert, who immediately sees all their memories and in doing so becomes the one person who fully understands their burden. Together they find a way to allow him to come forward and control their body, taking on their battles and giving Xephre time to rest. Despite having to rejoin again with each reset, his support is a key turning point in Xephre's emotional journey and probably the only reason they don't succumb to despair in the Final Days.Loop 701: Xephre sets foot in Old Sharlayan.Loop 1012: Xephre goes to Ultima Thule, traverses Meteion's dead worlds, defeats the Endsinger, and ostensibly frees themself from their curse. With the Scions' help they compile one last set of journals outlining the true timeline. Though asked many times for a more personal autobiography, they decline to share most of their thoughts with the wider world, allowing only the Scions and some other trusted individuals to read their original journals.

After the End

Though Xephre believes that their curse was meant to ensure they save the star from the Endsinger, they don't truly know if it's been lifted. It takes them some time to learn to live like it's their last.Following the events of the Endwalker patches, Xephre retreats to a remote undisclosed location, builds themself a little shack, and takes a sabbatical for two years. They find comfort in a daily routine and in mundane tasks like cleaning, cooking, and gardening. They return to their roots by hunting and foraging for subsistence.Eventually their wanderlust pulls them back into society, where they're asked to aid Wuk Lamat in the Trial of Succession. They're more than happy to come along as part mentor, part muscle, and let someone else take centre stage for once.

Vierapril 2025

Based on 3 different prompt lists.

01: Solitude

"I found a remote mountain peak in Yanxia and built a little house. And I just… lived, for a while. Hunted and foraged. Looked after my chocobo and some ducks and an aldgoat. Wrote a bit, read a bit, made things in my workshop. A simple, unhurried life."

02: Tree

I'll see you in the future when we're olderAnd we are full of stories to be toldCrossin' my heart and hope to dieI'll see you with your laughter lines

03: Nostalgia

"It was so long ago that by all rights I should have forgotten it by now, but… being here makes me ache. Like something deep inside me is trying to claw its way out."

04: Duality

Emet-Selch crosses his arms and looks at the familiar – no. He looks at this traveler through time, with their strange ears and their weary, serious expression and their eyes that are the exact same colour as Chronos’s. He looks at their soul, and he wonders: if it weren't so dim, would it look more like Chronos's, too?

05: Shadow

What if I had your heart?
What if you wore my scars?
What if you told my lies?
What if I cried with your eyes?

06: Free Day

Fall into me
Everyone's broken and I've got this missing piece
Honestly
You fit me like no one
You're perfectly broken for me

07: Privacy

Xephre is rarely able to update their journals mid-loop. A life cut short renders their notes inaccessible for years, and it's hard to find time away from prying eyes. But in Anyx Trine, questions and distractions are few and far between, and they can count on the dragons to keep their journals safe.

08: Food

The stew is hearty and warm, full of complex spices they're unfamiliar with. “What's in this?”“It's a blend of spices I brought with me from the Steppe.” He takes a bite. “I don't have much left, but it's meant to be used, after all."

09: Wanderlust

Maps stretched out
Too many miles to count
Let's just say we're inches apart
And even closer at heart
And we'll be just fine

10: Reverence

I've been around the world, seven wonders, seven seas
But when all is said and done you're the only thing I see, my love
So tell me what you're looking for
And you said
I don't need a symphony
I just want your voice and a melody

11: Ring

“Hope you can give me a bit of entertainment. After Aymeric hyped you up, it would be a shame if I got you on the floor in two minutes.”“Don’t underestimate me, little rabbit.”

12: Fresh

“Twenty-two summers? Don’t look a day over sixteen to me…"“In Eorzean Common we got ‘he’ and ‘she.’ If you're not a ‘he,’ go live in the women's barracks.”"People say we're wrong. Broken. But we don't need fixing.”

13: Autumn

"And it all changes colour like this? Every year?""Neat, right? Come on, there's a lookout point just ahead."

14: Ember

It was thousands of years ago, in their eyes. A mere twenty for him. And yet the guilt still burns in their chest, a persistent ember hidden deep down that refused to die no matter how cold their heart became.

15: AU

"Wicked White! We... have our answer.""Uh huh. Is it supposed to do that?""I'm afraid not. It's not really supposed to... glow?"[Collaboration with Rubi Aquliarion]

16: Touch

They study the scales on his jaw and the shape of his horns. They don't fully realize their hand is drifting toward his until it makes contact with his scales. He doesn't stir. They trace a ridge up his arm with a feather-light touch. Such intricate patterns…

17: Feral

They can’t feel their hands or their feet. They can’t feel anything but their pounding heart, a kick drum that envelops every part of them, that becomes them. Their vision flickers purple and black and crimson, darkness taking over their heart and body.

18: Rain/Refuge

“Do you ever think about leaving the jungle?” they ask.“Often, yes. But something keeps me here. Knowing the land, knowing the creatures and plants. I may not have a house, but I have a home – the entire jungle is my home."

19: Shatter

"Nobody wants t’see the Warrior of Light lose ’emself to their vices like some sorta common mortal, so I do it where no one can see, so they don’t have t’have their perfect dreams shattered.”

20: Free Day

All Xephre can hear is the distant, sourceless ticking that permeates Amaurot, always just arrhythmic enough to feel wrong, a broken chronometer that still believes it's working.

21: Beacon

Did you see the flares in the sky?
Were you blinded by the light?
Did you feel the smoke in your eyes, did you? Did you?
Did you see the sparks, feel the hope?
You are not alone
'Cause someone's out there
Sending out flares

22: Forsake

“Hundreds… hundreds of timelines… H-hundreds of versions of y-you, of everyone, and I – I left them behind – I've s-sacrificed my friends, I've killed m-myself in front of them, I've been petty and c-cruel and evil—”

23: Euphoria

It feels like a dance sometimes, somewhere between dream and performance. A conversation. Xephre is precisely attuned to his movements, reading his attacks and slipping through his defences as though the dance was choreographed. The sting of the blade and the ache of their muscles are the backing chorus to the performance, the blood and void an ever-evolving costume.

24: Hold

Xephre falls apart in his arms and lets out every fear and frustration that’s tugged on their heart like countless fish hooks begging them to drown, drown, drown. One by one, Ardbert gently removes the hooks from their heart, and slowly they remember what it feels like to rest. To float.

25: Trail

The next voice to come to them is almost startling in its familiarity."Listen to my voice."It is both theirs and not theirs."Listen to our heartbeat."Tears spill down Xephre’s cheeks. But still they walk."I forgive you. I forgive you."They walk."I’ll love you more than you’ll ever know."And they walk.

26: Cultivate

What if we already areWho we’ve been dying to becomeIn certain light I can plainly seeA reflection of magnificenceHidden in youMaybe even in me

27: Fix

Tell me, is something wrong?
If something's wrong, you can count on me
You know I'll take my heart clean apart if it helps yours beat
I just wanna build you up, build you up
Til you're good as new
And maybe one day I'll get around to fixing myself too

28: [Favourite] Job

“My soul is bound to the Keres. They lend me their strength. In return, they have a claim on my aether when I die."“And you’re… alright with that?”“Not really. But I did what I had to do.”

29: Surrender

I woke up from the same dream
Falling backwards, falling backwards
Til it turned me inside out
Until one day I had enough of this exercise of trust
I leaned in and let it hurt, let my body feel the dirt

30: Future

"Don’t let the threat of death slow you down. Let it push you forward. Live your life to the fullest – it’s yours, after all. Not mine, not Hydaelyn’s. Yours and yours alone.”

83. Vessel

Xephre makes a pact with voidsents.

Characters

A variety of figures who play important roles in Xephre's life before and during the events of MSQ.

Raya

she/her | Rava Viera
Enneagram Type 9w8
Sverr’s childhood best friend from their days in the jungle. The pair would play together, pretending to be heroes and adventurers.Though Raya wants to join Sverr in exploring the world, she feels tied to her family, partly through obligation and partly through love. Her mother insists that she have kits and help look after the family, both old and young. By the time Sverr is old enough to consider leaving the jungle, Raya has a young kit of her own to raise.Once Raya's son is old enough to train under a wood-warder, Raya leaves home to find adventure – and hopefully her friend.

Andre

he/him | Rava Viera
Enneagram Type 2w1
Sverr’s wood-warder mentor in the jungle. A gentle, caring father figure, he accepted and nurtured Sverr in a way that helped heal many of their traumas from growing up different from their peers.Having been raising young jacks for several decades, he’s well-versed both in the ways of the jungle as well as the journey kits make as they go through puberty. He gives all of himself to his charges because their happiness is his – sometimes to his own detriment. He will rarely admit it, but Andre finds himself unbearably lonely without a charge, which is part of why he continues to train them.

Dolvar

he/him | Rava Viera
Enneagram Type 8w9
One of Andre’s previous charges, Dolvar meets Sverr and Andre by chance when Sverr is twenty-one. Andre takes a softer approach to Sverr’s learning, but Dolvar challenges Sverr to step up and reach for their limits. Perhaps due to his position as a sort of upperclassman to them, he’s able to rouse their competitive spirit.Dolvar has been through the tribulations of being gay in a highly isolated society, and is able to give Sverr some advice on their confused queer feelings. Despite his confrontational nature, he’s also fiercely protective and supportive of those he loves.

Leaping Flame

she/her | Hellsguard Roegadyn
Enneagram Type 1w2
Leaping Flame is one of Xephre’s first friends in Eorzea, another member of the guard they join in a small town in La Noscea. Since they’re both ostracized for not being cis, they spend a lot of time together and become very close. Exuberant and willful, Flame doesn’t put up with her peers’ snide remarks and underhanded tactics. When the captain of the guard's apparent favouritism of Xephre turns exploitative, they skip town with Flame to make their way as adventurers. They become close in the year or so before the Calamity, but upon repeated loops Xephre becomes more and more focused on solving their curse and the Calamity and subsequently smother the embers of whatever they might have had with her.

Khutu Dazkar

he/him | Xaela Au ra
Enneagram Type 6w7
A fresh-faced, hapless lancer originating from the Azim Steppe, Khutu was treated unfavourably by his tribe mates and ultimately decided to travel to Eorzea to try his hand at adventuring.By the time they meet him, Xephre has already been through the Bloody Banquet and into Ishgard in previous lives. Though tired and on the verge of burning out, they still hold fast to the flame in their heart that tells them to do what's right. Despite their best attempts to keep others at arm's length, with his relentless optimism and joy, Khutu manages to cut through their constant seriousness and bring them some much-needed levity.Find out more about Khutu here.

Forgiven Redundancy

Warning: the following section contains spoilers for Shadowbringers 5.0

Forgiven Redundancy

There exists a broken timeline in which Xephre succumbs to the Light on the First and becomes a Lightwarden. As a Sin Eater, their name is Forgiven Redundancy; as a Lightwarden they are Ludus, a dragon of sorrow whose tears of light flood the Tempest, bathing it in a sickly glow.Perhaps thankfully, Xephre remembers little of the end of this timeline and their time in the Light.

Azem

Chronos is Xephre's unsundered Ancient self. A willful, spirited, and defiantly cheerful individual, they were seldom seen sitting still for more than a couple of moments. They met Venat on the field and invited themself to tag along with her on her expeditions for the Fourteen.Though Chronos had an apartment in Amaurot for when they needed to attend Convocation meetings or when visiting friends, they were most at home in the wilderness under the stars.Notable concepts by Chronos included the aurora, shooting stars, and cotton candy.Chronos often seemed whimsical and almost immune to criticism or admonishment. Fiercely competitive and something of a sore loser, any resistance they faced was seen as a challenge and met with a doubling down of determination.Though always eager to help those in need, be it a lifesaving feat of heroism, a menial task, or simply a shoulder to lean on and an ear to listen to one's troubles, Chronos was obstinately unwilling to examine their own shortcomings and internal thought processes, a trait that frustrated Emet-Selch beyond words, even more than their constant pranks and flights of whimsy. Though the two generally viewed each other with deep respect and great fondness, they were not always on the best of terms, and despite all of Hythlodaeus's efforts, relations were often strained, especially in the Final Days.

About the Author

Hi! I'm Hexephre or Hex (they/them). Thanks for visiting my blorbo shrine!I don't roleplay, but I have a burning hyperfixation for OCs and a lot of MSQ to explore through the lens of my WoL.Xephre isn't a self insert, despite the similar names. They have that name because I started playing FFXIV without much of an idea for a character, and by the time they did become their own person, it felt weird to change it.If it isn't clear from the themes in their story, I really enjoy torturing my OCs. I thrive on fictional angst and misery... but I'm also a huge fan of catharsis, healing, and the strength that comes from the bonds between people. (I'm weak when my friends do mean things to their OCs, though.)I'm deeply inspired by and in awe of creators who make large amounts of content for their own OCs for nothing more than pure personal enjoyment. It partly makes me feel better about my own obsessions and partly makes me hopeful that I too can be like that. My efforts are first and foremost to entertain myself, but if others are also interested, that brings me a lot of joy! When I'm not scouting out gpose locations or fiddling with shaders and lighting, I'm usually raiding, working on housing, or just vining with my FC.

138. Three of Crowns

GPoses from Xephre's life with Khutu.

“Let me guess – you prefer to tackle your tasks solo, but she keeps pairing you up with initiates.”“No one wants to work with me. I expect you can hazard a guess as to why.”

"Some of th'voices are my own. Tellin’ me I’m a hack, a failure. Some of ‘em are other people. Mem’ries. People who called me a freak or a monster. People who said it was my fault their house burned down af’er I dragged ’em out through the flames. People I couldn’t save. People I left b’hind…""...And three of ‘em are voidsents.”

They study the scales on his jaw and the shape of his horns. They don't fully realize their hand is drifting toward his until it makes contact with his scales. He doesn't stir. They trace a ridge up his arm with a feather-light touch. Such intricate patterns…

The stew is hearty and warm, full of complex spices they're unfamiliar with. “What's in this?”“It's a blend of spices I brought with me from the Steppe.” He takes a bite. “I don't have much left, but it's meant to be used, after all."

"Now I know it's not your usual style, but it suits you quite well! What do you think, Khutu?""I – yeah. Yes. Very much so."

They scoot over on the blanket to him – right up to him – and lean in to look from his perspective. “That one.” Their hand opens as though to pluck the stars like fruit from a tree.“...Right. I see.” He doesn't see it at all. He can't concentrate on the stars with them this close. He can feel the warmth of their skin. He can see the texture of their irises in the moonlight. He can smell their soap on them, mingling with the scent of their hair. Their face is ilms from his. He could just turn his head and…

"Uh... I thought you left.""Not without feeding you."

"⛌☐〇⛛☒...?""...What?""I think he likes you!"

“Look me in the eye and tell me you want me to leave."“...You'd be better off without me.”“That's not what I told you to say.”

“It's alright, Xeph. You're alright.”“…Sorry. I… I'm not used to this.”

And when I get lonely, I'll try to forget
But it's a strange kind of pain, love
'Cause we'll never be strangers again
